What SER­MI controls

SER­MI (Secu­ri­ty-Relat­ed Repair and Main­te­nance Infor­ma­tion) reg­u­lates access to essen­tial vehi­cle sys­tems, including:

• Immo­bilis­er resets
• ECU and secu­ri­ty mod­ule work
• Anti-theft sys­tems

With­out SER­MI autho­ri­sa­tion, it is no longer legal to access man­u­fac­tur­er secu­ri­ty data on mod­ern vehicles.

Impact on dif­fer­ent vehicles

In prac­ti­cal terms:

• Pre-2015 vehi­cles: Many can still be worked on with­out SERMI
• Mod­ern vehi­cles: Increas­ing­ly require SER­MI authorisation
